Danger Club - Better Late Than Never

A little late on the deadline, but here it is none the less! I think I'll ink this one up and use it as a print at cons... :D (Click it for full size!)

Millarworld: Superior

Monkey on Your Back? by: Switt!

So It's  a new week, new topic: Millarworld!

I have alot of favorite's in the "Millarworld" family of titles, and a ton of great characters.

That being said, I went with Superior. It's a great little series, that I thoroughly enjoyed., and you should seriously check it out if you haven't!

I wanted to get the monkey off my back and knock this one out early for the Keep It Fresh blog this week. Figured I'd have more time to map out the next couple weeks between work, my newborn, and other projects that require my attention.

Enjoy!

Apollo

Awesome series, everyone already took all the cool characters.

DANGER CLUB

Truly an awesome book. When the first issue came out, I walked by it a couple times before actually picking it up and giving it a look through. Once I did that. I was sold. The art is amazing, and the story is really going deep into the past and future of the characters and their world. Its really an awesome book. I would suggest to anyone on the fence about reading it should just pick up issue one and give it a shot, you'll be hooked. I can't wait for issue four to come out.

As with most of us "Freshers", I hadnt looked into Danger Club until this weeks topic popped up.

So I went and read the first four issues and I'm pretty pleased!

I'm in a "bot" mood lately so here's Yoshimi Onomoto with hers. Enjoy!

"Why do we fall?"

This is my drawing for the Dark Knight Rises which by the way I absolutely loved.  The movie does have its issues yes but it gave me everything I could have really wanted from the third act of this series.  I have never drawn this version of Batman and let me just say it is not easy, I did have to cheat a few spots but while it's tough it's also a lot of fun.  In regards to the Colorado shootings I want to say my thoughts are with the victims, their families, and those who responded to the scene.  The fact that this happens breaks my heart knowing that it was people just like those of us who post here and visit the site alike who went into this movie with great anticipation and had it become a nightmare, and to all those affected I am truly sorry.

I'm Gotham's Reckoning

A little late on my post. I was going to write up this whole long retelling of the event that happened in Colorado. But I don't feel like this is the place. I'm not saying you can't share your opinions here. I'm just not going voice mine. Even though I think what happened was horrible and shocking. And I'm sure I speak for everyone on here when I say our hearts and thoughts go out to the victims and their families. In the next couple of weeks I will be organizing something the contributors on here, when there is a relief fund in place for the victims and those affected . I will say, This event should bring us together as a people of a country, and not because this happened during a Batman Movie. Yes, the shooting did take place during a screening of The Dark Knight Rises. But this should have less to do with "geek culture" and more about an attack in the United States. So we should think less about how this effects the future of media, people's outlook towards comics, Batman, and anything else that doesn't really matter over the loss of human life. We should think about more than anything, is the victims of this horrific tragedy.

Danger!

I never read Danger Club to be honest. So I just googled it and this character popped up all over the place. I might have to check it out once I actually have time to read things :P

Purrrr-fecting My Craft

Yes, I'm technically late, but no art for the next theme have been posted yet, so at least I'm not sticking out.  I saw the movie and loved it, but I'm not here to talk about that.  Of the few drawings I've posted, this is most definitely my favorite.  I feel like I'm progressing with 1) Likenesses, and 2) inkwash technique.  Still, practice makes purrr-fect.

B-Rad

This is my B-man sketch for the week, Didn't mean for it to be this rough. Excited for the movie, unfortunately I haven't seen it yet.

Dark Knight Rises poster

Got fairly close on most the likenesses, obviously some homages to, what I think, is not only one of the most beautiful Catwoman covers but most beautiful Batman covers I've ever seen - Catwoman #2. His armor's cool for the movie but it sucks to draw. Kind of failed on Jason Gordon Levitts' character - totally pumped for the movie though.

Batman

Here is my batmandatory sketch. Not too excited about the movie- anyone heard anything good about it?

Absent Friends

See, when the theme was said to be "The Amazing Spider-Man," I presumed it was in reference to the movie that just came out, rather than the character in general.  Oh well.  I'll be honest with you, I had higher hopes for this drawing.  I tried to get it to look like Emma Stone, and I had a cool idea for the rain (like in the scene from the film <GASP> spoiler alert!).  But I reached that point when you know that if you do anything else to the drawing, you won't help it.  Still, I like how the jacket, scarf, and glove turned out.

Spider-Doodles

Spider-Doodles by Switt!

So , this week is Spider-Man eh? Well yes I did see the movie. I thought it was not 100% cookie cutter vs. the old ones, but i t still had the standard "romantic involvement becoming an issue for Spidey all the while the villain knows who he is" kinda dealie.

 Two things, okay three.
One) I thought Andrew Garfield was a better Spidey. His delivery of lines and body language just seemed less stiff and more in character.

Two and Three) STOP ANSWERING YOUR DAMN CELL ALL THE TIME WHEN VILLAIN HUNTING, and WHO is his cell carrier, because cell reception in a sewer isn't that easy, even if it's near a subway tunnel with repeaters built in.

On a "comical" note I did read a few issues of Avenging Spider-Man and I'm pretty pleased, especially the Cap/Spidey issue.

Amazing Spiderman

I thought the movie was really good. It had some minor problems that I was able to see past (story wise) . Overall a good superhero movie. I havent been reading the book as much lately, but I'm sure ill get back into it at some point. The sort of inspiration behind this was, a Bob Dylan cd cover and since Spiderman was created in the 60's. So I wanted to give it that kind of feel.

Pregnant Fairy

Hope I got the right comic. Found some images online, but didn't remember seeing the pages in the book. It's fairly appropriate since my wife is due with our first child in a week.

Web-sling

I was going for some Bart Sears anatomy. Feel free to insert any adequate birds eye view cityscape background. Dislike the new threads quite a bit. Would love to redesign him.

Superheros Like Boobs To.

I’m a nobody, a rookie, a understudy, hopefully soon that will change. James Whynot was nice enough to guide me through this, and while deciphering his disapproving nods and taking faith in his one syllable encouragements I was able to produce a halfway decent Spider Man. I'm looking forward to seeing some other posts and getting shown how you pros do the damn thannng.

The Stalk and Prince Robot

Even though it is taking me forever to read what has come out already from "Saga" I'm loving this book. It is really hard for me to describe it to people, when I'm trying to get them to read it. But I was given the recommendation from Danielle Brady, another contributor on here. She said. "yeah, you'll like it." So maybe that is what I'll say to other people. Larson posted a sketch of Marco and said it was unintentionally similar to Ted's post. Here is my version of "The Stalk," That unintentionally looks like Jed's. lol. When I got to issue two and saw this character. I was kinda blown away. The design is interesting. And I think this book is not lacking in that. The designs of each character are just amazing. So here you go Larson, you are not the only one.

I'm pretty much posting this for two people. Danielle was showing me her progress on this piece. And being the bully that I am, I took her drawing and started to finish it out. When I completed it, I told her to sign it. She argued the fact that since I just completely drew all over it and then inked it. It wasn't hers anymore. So just imagine instead of just my name being on there, Danielle Brady's name is near the cape as well. Maybe she signed it in white ink.

Saga

This is my first post here, so here it is a very bad Saga. It ended looking a little like Ted Woods post but that was not my intention at all. Anyway this was done with a Hunt 102 nib and Winsor and Newton #1 brush

Marko the Lombard

And I'm the not-cool one that never heard of Saga until I was told about this week's theme.  I'm a big fan of Vaughn, though, so the book interested me.  Anyway, I thought Marko's look would be a lot of fun to take a crack at.  Ram horns are a cool shape, but very tough to understand when you're drawing them.  I bet being a hair-stylist on his planet must be pretty difficult...

SAAAGGGGAAAAA

wooo first one up, I've enjoyed Saga so far, it's been a very strange book but I can appreciate that its celebrating the fact that it's a comic rather then wanting hollywood to come a knocking.  I went with Gwendolyn (i think that's her name) I love the design of this character and her I'm a teenager and I'm dead so what attitude.  So here's the start of what will be many other posts for this blog.
